2026 Update: Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve along the Fox River includes hiking trails, picnic areas, a boat launch, and several historic locations. The site features wooded areas suitable for hiking and bird watching, along with riverfront spaces used for relaxing, picnicking, boating, and fishing. A trail bridge crosses the river, connecting different parts of the preserve and serving as a key access point. At the entrance, there is a large wooden statue of Black Hawk, a Sauk leader associated with the Black Hawk War of 1832, and the area also serves as a memorial site for unknown soldiers from General Scott’s Army. To the south along the Riverbend Bike Trail, there is a natural waterfall about eight feet high where water flows into a clear creek."
