“Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Preserve is a 9,000-acre nature preserve with varying terrain and habitats, open trails and a visitor center. The preserve protects unique ecosystems such as coastal sage scrub, Engelmann oak woodlands, riparian wetlands, chaparral, bunchgrass prairie, and vernal pools. The area also features more than 200 species of native birds and 49 endangered animal and plant species, including mule deer, white-tailed kites, mountain lions, badgers, bobcats, western pond turtles, and fairy shrimp. The hiking trail offers various interpretive programs and trail walks. Horseback riding and mountain biking are some of the popular activities. This nature preserve ensures facilities like a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, public restrooms, picnic tables, and kid-friendly hikes, ensuring the convenience of the visitors.”
