With a 40-year master plan in place and more than 100,000 plants already established, the Gardens showcase the five Mediterranean climate zones found worldwide: Chile, the Cape of South Africa, Southern Australia, the Mediterranean Basin, and California. These low-water climate zones, like Ventura, promote long-term sustainability. The garden offers free admission for members and children aged 18 and under. Dogs on leashes are welcome on Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as on any monthly free days. The Ventura Botanical Gardens aims to create and maintain public gardens for preservation, education, cultural contribution, and enhancement.

Arroyo Verde Park is a scenic and important natural preserve and recreational resource. The park comprises 132 acres of relatively rugged land. The park encompasses 14 acres of open grass areas lined with trees. It also offers individual picnic/barbecue sites, three group barbecue areas, a nature center, several miles of hiking trails, restrooms, and two children's play areas. Redwood Glen is for 200 people, and Vista Bluff is for up to 75 people; BBQ grills and electrical outlets are available in both areas. A system of trails runs through the natural coastal sage scrub habitat. Hikers must be cautious of mountain lions, rattlesnakes, ticks, and poisonous plants while exploring park trails. Arrorya Verde Park has BBQ grills and electrical outlets in both areas.

This preserve offers refuge for shade-loving plants while chaparral-blanketed hillsides are open to summer sun. This destination is home to more than 300 species of animals and plants. The area features grasslands and meadows, displaying various spring wildflowers and grasses. There are miles of trails to explore, and they offer guided hikes several times a year. Ventura River Preserve is located 15.2 miles from downtown Ventura, and parking is available at all three locations.
