Excellent maintenance of trails with plenty of trail markers and wayfinding signs throughout the park should one have an issue. It is clear that this is a well loved destination for locals and travelers alike, many of which bring their dogs. It is a welcome reprieve from the hot summer sun to explore the shady trails. It was lush with greenery and the land is healthy as there were many Great Blue Herons, wood ducks, mallards, other sea/water loving fowl, and my personal favorite, a river otter! Picnic tables and benches are at a few different locations to enjoy a packed lunch or simply rest. I highly recommend exploring this island of wonders if you’re in the area.
Very nice State park that is nesstled between Waterford and Cohoes. There is a very nice hiking trail around the island. Very historic building were a lot of history has been made. Please remember that what you carry in you need to carry out. Help keep this park clean. If you are lucky enough, you may even see some Bald Eagles.
Beautiful park! The parametre trail is just 2 miles and a fairly easy walk but with stunning views over cliffs! The best part about it though was the wildlife. Giant carp and snapping turtles in the water below, and deer eating blackberries in the forest. Would absolutely recommend for anyone wanting to experience nature without having to hike too far into the wilderness.
