This glorious, independent vegetarian restaurant is an absolutely beautiful place to visit, eat, and enjoy the welcoming, colorful, offbeat atmosphere. The food is delicious (the vegan lasagne and vegetarian meatloaf are both wonderful) and the staff are super friendly. The restaurant is self-service: you order at the counter, they call your name when your food's ready, and then you take your food to wherever you want to eat. They have outdoor seating on the patio so you can eat safely outdoors, or you can buy food to go. I'm so glad to see the independent restaurants flourishing in the midst of chain-restaurant expansion, especially since this restaurant is feminist-oriented and feels like a safe space.

At once you’ll realize you are in a unique place; one that many of us hunger for in every meaning of the word. When most restaurants disappear after 3 years this has endured 45+, and a part is by providing everyone who is receptive to it more than basic provisions.

Bloodroot is a Connecticut institution. It’s my favorite restaurant in CT. I’ve been eating here since the 90s. The owners are fantastic women who care about their customers and put the same love and care into their food preparation. I always enjoy my visits with friends.
