Kathleen Rathbun, the founder and Artistic Director of Ballet and Dance of Upstate NY, Inc., envisioned a nurturing environment where dancers with a shared passion and eagerness to learn dance could come together. 2026 Highlights: Ballet & Dance of Upstate NY, INC offers Summer Sessions. Summer tuition is based on the number of classes a dancer takes per week and the number of weeks they attend. Pay tuition online using various payment methods, including credit/debit cards or bank transfers. Tuition is divided into four quarterly installments."

Under the direction of Studio Owner Alissa, who has 40 years of dance experience and has received the Nona Schurman Scholarship for Excellence in Dance Composition and the Sue Ann Kreuter Dance Award, TMB provides quality dance training for students of all levels. Alissa has also studied with renowned dance professionals through the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC, where she trained with Douglas Nielson, Jeffrey Bullock, Lisa Race, David Dorfman, and “Bopi” Patterson, performing repertory from Mark Morris’ The Hard Nut and participating in a master class with Twyla Tharp. We transferred to Ballet & Dance of Upstate NY after not receiving the same level of instruction for all students at another studio. We have been so impressed with the professionalism, and level of instruction provided to all students here, irregardless of whether they are My son does not go here, yet, however I felt compelled to leave an appropriate review based on how I was treated. I have reached out to so many dance studios for my ASD son, and I have been met with such unwelcoming experiences, that I started to feel utterly defeated. When the woman called me back from this establishment, she was so nice, so caring, enthusiastic, and all around nice. This is something I have not been able to find even in my sons current dance studio. She was patient with me while I explained everything to her, and explained what I was hoping to obtain in a studio. I am looking forward to hopefully enrolling my son this summer.

This studio has been part of my life for the past 28 years. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn under Kathleen Rathbun and other wonderful teachers in an environment that not only fostered my passion for dance, but also helped me grow as a person in many ways. I have been fortunate enough to return to this studio as an instructor for the past 10 years and share my love of dance and this school with the students I teach as well as my own children. The atmosphere is a positive one that provides structure and routines alongside professional level training. The students here not only have the opportunity to learn and improve their dance skills, but to build strong friendships along the way.

We truly love Ballet & Dance of Upstate NY! Ms. Rathbun is an excellent instructor, as are the others. It is a place where children really learn to love the art of dance. We are so glad we found it.

Words cannot adequately express how much my daughter has fallen in love with dance and it is all due to the extraordinary teachers and staff at TMB! Everyone in the studio sincerely cares about their craft and see to it that the students receive high quality, balanced instruction. Dancers are not only taught steps and moves, but also important life skills like how to be a team player, how to be supportive of others and the value of practice. It truly is a family-like atmosphere with older dancers helping those that are younger. I've seen my daughter gain confidence and friendships through dance. The Movement Box is so much more than a dance studio; it is a place for dancers to grow and make memories for a lifetime.

We have been involved with The Movement Box Dance Studio for years and we are so grateful for all the supportive and caring staff there. Such a professional and welcoming dance studio. Each instructor goes above and beyond to ensure each dancer is exceeding their potential, while making each class engaging and fun.

After trying out 2 other dance studios, we finally found our "home!" We've been very happy with TMB. Highly communicative and organized, disciplined and engaging, and overall a well run studio!.
