"A.L. Gustin Golf Course is an 18-hole course with a full pro shop, a driving range, and a practice green. The golf course has 25,000 rounds of golf played every year. Aaron Wier is the Director of Golf Operations at the golf course. Isaac Breuer is the Course Superintendent of the A.L. Gustin Golf Course. His expertise is key to consistently enhancing the course’s beauty and performance. The course has been recognized for its excellence in wildlife habitat management, water conservation, and environmentally friendly turf management practices. The golf course hosts numerous outside events and golf tournaments. A.L. Gustin Golf Course offers a high-quality golfing experience featuring a maintained course, comprehensive facilities, and a commitment to environmental sustainability.

2026 Update: The golf course team includes several staff members with different roles. Isaac Breuer is the Course Superintendent with over 29 years of experience in turf management and helps maintain the condition and appearance of the course. Eric Cletis Acton is the First Assistant Superintendent and Head Mechanic and has worked at the course for 23 years, focusing on course maintenance and equipment. Erik Kase is the Assistant Manager and has been with the course for 7 years, bringing experience in recreation and sports management. Zack Giffen is part of the turf care team and is responsible for tasks such as mowing, watering, spraying, and maintaining course quality. The course hosts several major tournaments, including the Missouri State Open, Missouri State Junior Championship, Missouri State High School Championships, Collegiate Players Tour, Gateway PGA Mid-Missouri Championship, Phil Cotton Invitational, and Show Me State Games. The golf course was opened in 1959 by the University of Missouri–Columbia and is located near Faurot Field on Stadium Boulevard."

"Lake of the Woods Golf Course is an 18-hole municipal golf course that is open year-round and provides a challenging and enjoyable round for all levels. This course features three sets of tees, bunkers, mature trees, large zoysia fairways, and a driving range. Their PGA-trained professional staff can provide insight into the newest equipment and technology and help improve your skills through one-on-one lessons or on-course development. The golf course has tee-to-green irrigation and a clubhouse with concessions. They also host over 80 events, ranging from scrambles to tournaments. The golf course, along with the adjacent swimming pool, makes Lake of the Woods Recreation Area a great place for family summer fun. The public Course is located east of Columbia on 145 acres.

For the price, it’s hard to beat this golf course and location. It’s a really fun course with quite a bit of elevation change and a few water hazards. There’s no other course in Columbia that will have the hills this course does. And per usual on a public course, it gets played by so many people. But the staff does a great job staying on top of the needed tee box and greens maintenance.

Always been my favorite course in Columbia. Isaac, Cletis, and Nick do a great job keeping the course in awesome shape. Jim and staff are awesome from the pro shop.

The staff were friendly and curteous, and the practice facilities above average. They have a particularly nice practice chipping green.

LA Nickell is a great golf course for anyone looking to get started. It’s a pretty wide open course which makes it harder to lose a ball, but there’s plenty of challenges to make you better. I love that it’s an affordable course and close to town!

This course is in really great shape beautiful green. The greens were in great shape just thoroughly enjoyed. The staff was unbelievable. Very friendly and helpful. Definitely will be coming back.

Very Well kept course. Everyone in the shop is laid back and the greens are always in good condition. L.A Nickell is the best bank for your buck.

Really nice public golf course with some challenging holes. The fairways and greens were in really good condition the day I was there. I just wish other players would fix their divits. I fixed 2 and 3 divits on some of the greens, and they looked pretty fresh. Like made that day.

Great course, open enough to see where you and, more importantly, your ball are going. Lovely scenery, quiet, decently maintained. The driving range is a bit far from the clubhouse, but it's got proper distance flags which is a must have. This public course scores a birdy.

Nice course. Relatively flat and open but with enough doglegs to make it interesting. Greens are a good size and in great condition. Fairways had adequate grass for getting best shot and roughs are tough enough to challenge you.
