“Pequonnock River Valley State Park is a well-known state park with a river valley in Trumbull, CT. The park is carved by melting glacial waters, leaving notable granite formations. Hiking routes for miles in a deep valley beside a river originally a water company reservoir. The trails went from Bridgeport to Newtown and were built using state money as part of a national program to repurpose historic railway beds as walks and bicycle lanes. Trails range from a level 2.5-mile disused railway bed to steeper trails that claim the river's ridges on each side. The Pequonnock River Valley State Park offers several benches along the primary trail every half-mile for a quick break. This park is an ideal place for running, hiking, biking, and walking. Visitors can park their vehicles on Tait Road or off Whitney Avenue.
