Specialty:
“Monarch Butterfly Grove is an ideal destination that provides breathtaking views. The trail is located 20.4 miles from Santa Maria. The Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove is one of only five spots in the state where over 10,000 butterflies are counted each year. This is a 1.3-mile out-and-back trail with an elevation gain of 3 feet. This trail is generally considered an easy route and takes an average of 22 minutes to complete. The Grove has thousands of brilliant orange and black Monarch Butterflies that migrate to Pismo State Beach each year, a spot critical to their successful journey, seeking refuge from the harsh northern winters. The butterflies congregate on the branches of towering, majestic Eucalyptus trees that line a riparian estuary flowing into the Pacific Ocean from late October to February. Monarch Butterfly Grove is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. The trail also allows dogs in designated leash spots.”
