The Museum erected three years after her passing in 1998, the Museum houses a collection of Selena's gold records, awards, performance wardrobe, and other memorabilia, serving as a powerful tribute to the life of the Tejano Queen from Texas. The Quintanilla family built the Museum in response to the overwhelming demand from dedicated fans who wished to honor and celebrate Selena's life. The admission fee to the Selena Museum includes a comprehensive tour of Selena's stage costumes and memorabilia, as well as collections, including her red Porsche, GRAMMY award, and much more. Visitors to the Museum may even glimpse Selena's family, as Q Productions remains a working studio and office.

The Museum's three-level facility, originally designed by American architect Philip Johnson, was constructed of shell aggregate and poured white concrete, creating a harmonious relationship with the surrounding environment. The Museum features temporary and permanent exhibits showcasing art from the Americas and is housed in a stunning architectural landmark overlooking Corpus Christi Bay. The Museum strives to foster community interest in the visual arts through various programs such as workshops, movies, seminars, events, and other activities.
