“Academy of Rock Music is a locally-owned music school in Newport News, Virginia. Ron Lowder Jr. is the owner of the Academy of Rock Music. The music school was established in 2007. They provide private and group lessons. Over the past 17 years, directors Ron Lowder, Vasili Simmons, Dylan Taylor, and Ray Couts have guided countless Academy of Rock Music students to perform over 900 songs varying from classic rock to metal, from funk to reggae. The academy places young and old musicians into full-fledged rock bands based on their age and skill level. The music school offers one-on-one instruction on drums, voice, guitar, bass, and keys. Their facilities allow their cast of all-star instructors to "jam" with students during lessons. Their bands start each session by choosing a song list with the help of their instructors. They operate year-round, holding spring, summer, and fall sessions.”
