The Gladys Porter Zoo is a visitor-oriented botanical and zoological park dedicated to preserving nature through education, conservation, healthful outdoor recreation & research. The Children’s Museum of Brownsville is a fantastic place for children to play and learn alongside their caregivers. They are the only children’s museum in the country, and you can find them in the Mitte Cultural District inside Dean Porter Park. Their mission is to introduce kids to the “World of Learning” through hands-on creative and interactive exhibits, workshops & special events. You can host your next birthday party with them, bring a group on a field trip, or register a play date with friends. Free admission is available for children under one year.

Brownsville Museum of Fine Art's purpose is to contribute to the art education and cultural enrichment of the community, exhibit works of art, arrange for and give educational programs for kids and adults, and encourage/develop appreciation advancement of art throughout the city. In the middle of the Mitte Cultural District, visitants will enjoy viewing traveling exhibits and art from their permanent collection & local artists. The museum is designed to be available for its variety of guests, where patrons are accommodated to the greatest degree possible. This includes the front entrance wheelchair-ramp, a wheelchair-accessible double door entry, specially designated restroom stall with assisting handrails, even-level flooring throughout the building & a water fountain installed at sitting height. Free admission is available for kids under 6.
