The Public park is located on the far southwest side of Springfield, where residential and commercial buildings have been enlarging in recent years. The park was the biggest at the time and was funded with the help of an $800,000 grant called The Development Grant and Open Space Lands Acquisition from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The total project cost is $1,425,000.00. The land was developed in 1921, and the park has some rules and regulations, such as vehicles left after the park closing will be towed at the owner’s expense, and watch your speed, stopping, and signaling when driving in the park areas. The park playgrounds are “Kid-friendly zones” where smoking is discouraged.

Additionally, the park has baseball diamonds, a basketball court, and many parking areas and picnic tables. There is even a concession stand open at these times.
