Dr. Max A. Shapiro completed his medical education at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He then pursued his internship and residency at Emory University, followed by a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. His areas of expertise include colon cancer screening, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Barrett’s Esophagus. Dr. Shapiro also performs video capsule endoscopy (PillCam) to evaluate the small intestine and has participated in multidisciplinary treatments for Eosinophilic Esophagitis and Celiac Disease. Dr. Shapiro, who is certified by the board in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, is currently practicing at the Metro Atlanta Gastroenterology center and is also the staff at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing, Dr. Shapiro is also offering telemedicine appointments.
