“Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is a 1,100-acre nature park that contains wetlands and woodlands, a campus for water research and environmental education, which includes a visitor center. The nature park is well maintained and has many miles of boardwalk and dirt trails. The park has Beaver Dam Trail, which starts just beyond the silos & picnic pavilion. Leading Nature Park visitors along a wide trail overlooking the floodplain of Butler Creek, this trail is approximately 0.5 miles long. Also, the park has a Bridge Through the Woods, Floodplain Boardwalk and Observation Deck, Mayor’s Fishin’ Hole, Pfizer Pavilion, Pond Trail, Rain Garden Deck & Boardwalk, Wetland Cells, and Windshear Tower. The park has many bald cypresses draped in Spanish moss and forests of loblolly trees. Birds commonly found at Phinizy Swamp include red-shouldered hawks, great blue herons, sora, wood ducks, and bald eagles. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset.”
