3 Best Hiking Trails in Palmdale, CA

Nice hike to one of the more prominent peaks in the front range, with great views of the back range. About 8 miles RT and 1,800 ft elevation gain. This one is a nice single track trail, suitable for dogs, unlike the mountaineers route. No shade. A decent amount of parking by Red Box, but make sure you have an Adventure Pass.

Nice trail, a little bit sandy and slippery at the top of the peak, be sure you have a hiking shoes, a lot of shadow, not hot, take some water with you. The trail is long. And of course the road to the place is amazing and scenic. Nice free parking across the road, toilets as well. Good luck on your hike.

I started at Red Box before 7am and had the ridge mostly to myself. The 7.2-mile round trip gains 1,700 feet to the highest point in the San Gabriel front range at 6,164 feet. There are false summits that will mess with your head. No shade on the upper section — go early. The 360-degree views at the top make every false summit worth it. Bring double the water you think you need.

Excellent trail for a quick walk. Very well maintained gravel and paved trail through a residential neighborhood that dumps out into the foothills, for what seems to be unlimited walking and hiking. I'm not a local, so I'm not 100% sure where public land turns private, but looks like lots of utility easement to wander through. Visiting from out of town and looking for a nearby trail to my hotel and this area delivered.

If you go left (uphill, towards the mountains) about 1/3 of a mile, you will have access to the mountain trails. They are myriad and you can hike as long and far as you want. Some of them are fairly steep (10% to 15% grade). Most of the surface is that pea gravel/sand (natural desert soil) that makes excellent hiking and running surface.

Very nice hike. You can go left on the trail it goes into hills or right, and it leads you to a foothill park.
