I love to go out there and let my dogs run around. As a Photographer I take alot of pictures while I'm there also. I love trees and there are some pretty cool uprooted trees there. They have horse rentals there also. You can also rent tubes there. The sangamon river isn't really much to look at. But the landscape around it is really cool. Alot of people fish there so I assume it's a great fishing spot. If you don't want to dirty your car I suggest you don't go after it rains because all the trails are dirt. It's a great spot to just sit and think. If I need time to myself I try and go there.
Carpenter park is amazing! Has awesome scenic trails next to sangamon river. There's a brick gyzebo with a fire place. And picnic tables if you decide to have a bite to eat while your there. Our whole family loves going here. And it's hard to please 4 kids lol.
Carpenter Park provides hiking trails for various levels of experience. You could easily fill a day exploring. The grounds are fairly well maintained. I visited in the evening hours and there was very little foot traffic. A nice location if you want to feel secluded without really being secluded.
