FORT MONROE NATIONAL MONUMENT REVIEWS
Totally loved this experience. The entire visit was interesting and pleasantly surprising. The museum was amazing, and walking and driving around the fort was satisfying and thought-provoking. It was already fun entering through the very narrow gate. Walking along the rampart and through the tunnel was a great experience. Can't recommend this place enough. We didn't set out to find what we did, but lucky happenstance gave us a great surprise to observe and interact with.
Very cool fort. Apparently the largest brick fort in the US. If you have a large vehicle you might not fit through gates and have to park on outside of fort. If you are an Edgar Allan Poe fan, he spent some time at the fort during his service which was cool to find out. You can actually rent houses in the fort to live if you want.
The Fort and surrounding areas are beautiful. The museum staff is highly knowledgeable and passionate about history. I highly recommend visiting when you're in the area. It is quiet, serene, and is a marvel.

HAMPTON UNIVERSITY MUSEUM REVIEWS
The museum has a really amazing collection of pieces from across sub-Saharan Africa, and an interesting collection from mostly Plains tribes. The African collection in particular is fascinating since it seems to be drawn from materials that were donated by their original owners, which is good considering how many African artifacts were taken/stolen/pillaged in the 19th and 20th century. In addition there are new gallery spaces with African+American artists, while the Museum won't take too long it is definitely worth a visit.
A beautiful campus. The museum is first rate. The collection of art is varied and vibrant. A very unique experience you can't miss if you are in the area. I didn't even realize what Hampton University really was, we were just scouting with a rental car where to anchor our boat next, and once I realized the History of the college I had to go to to museum! Just a great day, one of many on our journey to sail Dragon's Lair from Florida to Wisconsin.
The Hampton University art Museum is very well worth visiting. They have a fine collection of art and there is no admission fee call ahead to make sure they are open.

Came here with my boyfriend and his sister for one of their arts and crafts events and had a great time. The library is a very beautiful library, and it is huge too with a variety of good books. The staff was also very helpful too.
Great service. Great amenities. I like that books and resources provided and displayed for different seasons of the year.
