ALHAMBRA WATER TOWER

2000 Alhambra Circle, Coral Gables,
Hialeah, FL 33134 Directions

Since 1924

Specialty:

Architectural Buildings Lighthouse Tower Tour Coral Gables History

Alhambra Water Tower was constructed in 1924, comprising two separate structures. The inner circle tank served a purely utilitarian function and had an unappealing appearance. The tower is situated approximately 6.1 miles away from downtown Hialeah. To conceal the water tank's unsightly features, a reinforced concrete and wood frame structure was designed to resemble a lighthouse, which added aesthetic value to the overall design. The tower was a vital component of the city's water supply system. Denman Fink, who was Merrick's uncle, designed the lighthouse to encase the steel-frame water tower, creating an architecturally playful facade that exudes a sense of peace, surprise, color, majesty, and history. The tower is a hidden gem in the Miami-Dade area, providing visitors a serene environment to relax and unwind.
