McDonald Mansion was constructed in 1876 in the Victorian Stick/Eastlake style. The mansion served as a summer home for the McDonald family, who resided primarily in San Francisco. Today, the McDonald Mansion is a popular tourist destination in Santa Rosa and was even featured in Walt Disney's Pollyanna, with the exterior of the mansion used for filming. The editors of the film modified the building's appearance by using matte painting to add multiple stories and additional architectural features. The mansion has undergone significant restoration, including the exterior, creating Victorian-themed rooms throughout the home and adding new features to the backyard.
