The building was designed by local architect Wallace L. Dow and built from locally quarried quartzite, a common building material in Sioux Falls at the time. The Courthouse has three floors of public exhibit space that provide a colorful look at the region’s history. This beautifully restored quartzite building features a 165-foot clock tower, historical murals, and three floors of regional art. The Museum store includes unique and affordable Dakota-made gifts for the whole family. They offer free admission and wheelchair accessibility.
2026 Highlights: Old Courthouse Museum has three floors, and the second floor features the restored circuit courtroom and law library. The museum store is located on the first floor and features unique gifts, historic toys, books and souvenirs. "
