“Old Courthouse Museum offers a dynamic history experience through informative and innovative exhibits, programs, rental spaces, and special events. The building was designed by local architect Wallace L. Dow and built from locally quarried quartzite, a common building material in Sioux Falls at the time. The Courthouse has three floors of public exhibit space that provide a colorful look at the region’s history. This beautifully restored quartzite building features a 165-foot clock tower, historical murals, and three floors of regional art. The Museum store includes unique and affordable Dakota-made gifts for the whole family. They offer free admission and wheelchair accessibility.”

“Pettigrew Home & Museum is an elegant 1889 Queen Anne-style home of South Dakota's first senator, Richard Pettigrew. The home has interactive exhibits, special programs, speakers, and hands-on activities that allow its visitors the opportunity to open their minds to the past and bring history into their lives. The home's collections contain animal specimens, firearms, Native American artifacts and clothing, walking canes, and items related to Sioux Falls' early history. “Battleship South Dakota Memorial was established in 1963. Diane Diekman, who grew up on a South Dakota farm, is a retired U.S. Navy captain, a published author, and the memorial's president. The mission of Battleship South Dakota Memorial in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is to preserve the history of USS South Dakota (BB 57) and its crew by operating a world-class museum that educates current and future generations on the most decorated battleship of World War II. The Memorial draws visitors from all fifty states and around the world to view artifacts from the ship and its crew members. Visit the museum to see and learn more about USS South Dakota. OLD COURTHOUSE MUSEUM REVIEWS

Very impressive piece of history with a wide array of educational displays including some hands on and a few activities for all ages. Nice gift shop and friendly staff. Admission: free with a suggested $5 donation. 3 levels to explore, a cent weight machine and a lice view from the clock tower. Free street parking across the street and down a little.

Nice place to visit and learn some of the history of the state and the city. Excellent layout and expositions. We spent like 2.5hrs here admiring everything the place has to offer. It is free to enter and learn a lot from the location and other expositions from communications to cooking yeah I know.

Great museum with easy parking and the added bonus of free admission. I gladly donate to support them. The staff is fantastic, and the gift store offers reasonably priced items as well.

PETTIGREW HOME & MUSEUM REVIEWS

IF you're a history nerd, you'll positively love this place. They give a guided tour thru the 'living quarters ' side of the house, then you get to step into the true Museum side. There's a lot about the history of Sioux Falls you'll find out by going. There are ALSO maps that show the boundaries of the numerous historical areas, with info on types of houses in each area. My wife and I took an impromptu neighborhood tour and marveled at some of the house. Very cool Indeed.

Free museum located in the historic district of town surrounded by other beautiful houses. It has a lot of interesting and rich history with a hands on board and video to watch. Tours of the house are every hour which we happen to be there at the right time and didn't have to wait long. Our guide was very informative and nice. The house is absolutely gorgeous! Definitely recommend to anyone who is in the area.

So this was pretty interesting. You can go through the museum anytime during their open hours but to see the actual house, you have to get a guided tour, but you don't need to set an appointment for it ahead of time. It took us probably an hour and a half to see everything. We were the only ones in there the entire time. It's free as well.

BATTLESHIP SOUTH DAKOTA MEMORIAL REVIEWS

This is a must see if your have an interest in Naval history!!! The park exterior is a very clever way to represent the size of the battleship. The museum is filled with artifacts and presented nicely. A little hint... Talk to the lady in the museum, she is a hidden gem with a wealth of information and shares it freely if asked. If you want a free 8 hour lesson on polishing the ships bell all you have to do is touch it.

Free exhibit that's well worth it. Walk the footprint of the BB-57 USS South Dakota, which had several guns, anchors, radar, etc for demonstrative purposes. There is a small museum with models of the ship, history, pieces from the ship, and information on the other 2 USS SDs. There is a 30 minute documentary about the ship. The ship had 13 battle stars and was the most decorated battleship of World War II.

The exhibit is fantastic; it's grown a lot since my first visit back in 2010. Chris Tucker gave an excellent tour with some cool behind-the-scenes facts. Definitely make it a stop when passing through the area, and tell Chris that Karl I said hello.
