3 Best Landmarks in Sioux Falls, SD

IF you're a history nerd, you'll positively love this place. They give a guided tour thru the 'living quarters ' side of the house, then you get to step into the true Museum side. There's a lot about the history of Sioux Falls you'll find out by going. There are ALSO maps that show the boundaries of the numerous historical areas, with info on types of houses in each area. My wife and I took an impromptu neighborhood tour and marveled at some of the house. Very cool Indeed.

Free museum located in the historic district of town surrounded by other beautiful houses. It has a lot of interesting and rich history with a hands on board and video to watch. Tours of the house are every hour which we happen to be there at the right time and didn't have to wait long. Our guide was very informative and nice. The house is absolutely gorgeous! Definitely recommend to anyone who is in the area.

So this was pretty interesting. You can go through the museum anytime during their open hours but to see the actual house, you have to get a guided tour, but you don't need to set an appointment for it ahead of time. It took us probably an hour and a half to see everything. We were the only ones in there the entire time. It's free as well.

This is a must see if your have an interest in Naval history!!! The park exterior is a very clever way to represent the size of the battleship. The museum is filled with artifacts and presented nicely. A little hint... Talk to the lady in the museum, she is a hidden gem with a wealth of information and shares it freely if asked. If you want a free 8 hour lesson on polishing the ships bell all you have to do is touch it.

Free exhibit that's well worth it. Walk the footprint of the BB-57 USS South Dakota, which had several guns, anchors, radar, etc for demonstrative purposes. There is a small museum with models of the ship, history, pieces from the ship, and information on the other 2 USS SDs. There is a 30 minute documentary about the ship. The ship had 13 battle stars and was the most decorated battleship of World War II.

The exhibit is fantastic; it's grown a lot since my first visit back in 2010. Chris Tucker gave an excellent tour with some cool behind-the-scenes facts. Definitely make it a stop when passing through the area, and tell Chris that Karl I said hello.
