“Angel Mounds State Historic Site is an expression of the Mississippian culture and is an archaeological site managed by the Indiana State Museum. The Angel Mounds State Historic Site includes over 600 acres of land about 8 miles southeast of present-day Evansville, in Vanderburgh and Warrick counties of Indiana. Nearly 575 acres comprise Angel Mounds State Historic Site, which includes an interpretive center, recreations of Mississippian buildings, and an operational reconstruction of the 1939 Works Progress Administration (WPA) archaeology laboratory. The 500-acre non-archaeological portion of the area includes a nature preserve with biking and hiking trails and an 18-hole disc golf course. The site also holds the amazing Angel Mounds Loop Trail, spanning approximately four miles. This trail will give you an unexpected slice of archaeological history and stunning scenery.”
