“Dr. Umer Akbar graduated from the Medical University of the Americas, and he finished his residency at the Cooper University Hospital, Camden. Dr. Akbar’s research interests include the diagnosis and management of movement disorders. Dr. Umer is a board-certified neurologist with expert knowledge in the surgical and medical management of movement disorders. He is proficient in deep brain stimulation patient evaluation and selection, botulinum toxin injections, post-operative deep brain stimulation programming, and intra-operative microelectrode recording. Dr. Umer Akbar is co-director of the Movement Disorders Program and the Deep Brain Stimulation Program at Rhode Island Hospital. He is a proud member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Movement Disorders Society.
