The museum is the only National Register of Historic Places listing the earliest buildings in Gilbert. The Gilbert Historical Society has been in existence since 1960 and was founded in 1979, but had no formal structure to call its own. Gilbert Historical Museum has been at the heart of the Gilbert community since 1982. When the school closed in 1977 and the building became accessible, the Historical Society rented it, and the Gilbert Historical Museum is committed to protecting the past, shaping the present, and contributing to East Valley's prosperity. Make sure you don't miss their patio, packed with genuine farm equipment, some of which dates back to the earliest days of Gilbert. The museum offers free admission for children under the age of 5.
