Zoo Knoxville is dedicated to being part of the solution to save species from extinction, both locally and globally. The zoo aims to provide dynamic guest experiences while inspiring action for wildlife and wild places. They work with other zoos approved by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) on a combined species survival plan for all animals that live in AZA-accredited zoos in North America. Zoo Knoxville is even involved with conservation work in the field, with an award-winning appreciation for their efforts to save East Tennessee’s endangered bog turtle and ongoing research with native hellbender and mudpuppy salamanders. Their staff members travel to far-flung places like Madagascar, the Komodo Islands, and Indonesia to study animals in their native habitats. Knoxville Museum of Art celebrates the art and artists of East Tennessee, presents new art and new ideas, serves and educates diverse audiences, and enhances Knoxville’s quality of life. The museum is also available for rental to individuals, non-profit organizations, and corporations. Visitors can explore the exhibition-related merchandise, stationery, posters, and excellent coffee table books. More than 70,000 people visit annually. Outreach to area schools, particularly those in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, reaches another 10,000 young people annually. More than 300 volunteers donate more than 15,000 volunteer hours each year, and special membership groups, the KMA Guild, Art House, and Collectors Circle, provide vital support and service opportunities for members.
