John and the team are fantastic! In preparing the brief for our custom home build they were incredibly thorough; covering every detail and ensuring we understood every step of the process. John himself is personable and humble— not something you'd expect from such an accomplished architect. He visited our old home to help get a vision for how we live and what we're looking for in a new home. Despite moving to the East Coast, we still wanted Klopf's team to design our home, but the logistics for our specific project didn't work out. If we were building in the Bay Area, he'd be first on our list to contact.

We hired John and Lucie to help us with an addition and overall remodel of our Eichler home. They really did an amazing job designing the addition to stay true to the concepts of the Eichler home. They were also very helpful in project management to keep the project on time when construction was at an all time high in demand. They worked tirelessly to find us a great contractor, and find engineers to sign off on the structural requirements when we were in a pinch to pass inspection. They truly were client centric in their approach and we really appreciated all their thoughtfulness. Thanks John and Lucie.

Klopf's team was absolutely awesome. They do only modern builds, and they are very good at it. We loved that they would work with us only if they could help manage the project end-to-end, unlike many other architects who essentially transition the project over to the GC and step back into a consulting role. Klopf recommended our GC - Coast-2-Coast, and both of them worked jointly meeting every week for an hour to keep the project on track. Klopf's designs are sophisticated, modern, yet timeless and accessible - they fit the project to our needs and the way we want to live. Couldn't recommend them more highly.

Our 80’s style kitchen needed a complete makeover. A lot of the rooms in our outer sunset house were cramped and makeshift, due to an existing exterior atrium space in the middle of the house. We wanted to enclose the atrium and make it part of the kitchen, and a 3rd story addition to our existing 3rd story bedroom. We chose Andy as our architect to help us realize our vision. From the offset Andy was enthusiastic and offered so many really creative ideas. One design problem was the skylight over the new kitchen island. The new skylight ended up directly in front of our new 3rd story window wall with views of the Golden Gate. Andy’s solution was to make the skylight a sculptural piece with decking and surrounded by planters. Andy worked with us to the final design, a unique lantern style skylight with opaque glass. This is just one of many of the creative solutions Andy offered and help us create. During the design phase, Andy provided 3D views of the proposed options. This was really helpful for us making design decisions. He brought in a contractor that has worked on many of his projects over the decades, to provide a preliminary estimate during the design phase. This was before we submitted to the planning and building department for permit. We found this really helpful, keeping our expectations and budget on track. Andy was great meeting with the neighbors to explain our proposed project. Again Andy creatively solved ours and the neighbor’s concern about shadows being cast on their adjacent solar roof panels.

Our decision to hire Andy as our Architect was based on his extensive experience with 3rd story additions and extensive remodels in San Francisco. We proceeded to the design phase with Andy. We were really excited by all of the design options Andy presented. We especially appreciated how Andy listened to us and was able to catch and develop the design wave we were trying to create. Due to circumstances not in our or Andy's control, we have decided not to proceed with the project past the design phase. We found Andy great to work with and would highly recommend him as your Architect for residential additions and remodels in San Francisco.

I have been working with him for a while. He is prompt and very knowledgable. And Friendly!! Project we are working is complex. I highly recommend him.
