He earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Missouri, where he also briefly worked in a research lab before enrolling in the University of Missouri School of Medicine to obtain his medical degree. He then completed his residency in urologic surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center.
