"Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church was constructed by Father Dominic Blasco, pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish within the Diocese of Baton Rouge. On June 21, 1947, Archbishop Rummel formally raised the Mother of Mercy Mission to the status of a parish and renamed it 'Their Lady of Mercy Parish.' He named Father Louis E. Marionneaux its founding pastor, effective July 1, 1947. After much deliberation, the parish agreed that approximately 700 families in about 30 square miles in the eastern section of Sacred Heart Parish should have their own parish. The parish also offers child care and in-home religious services for home-bound individuals. The church is an elegant rectangular building resting on four square stone pillars to form the Table of Sacrifice. The generous faith of this congregation has raised this House of God to His glory, praying for the eternal joy of their loved ones and seeking His blessings upon all who enter their church. The church also features facilities, including a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a spacious parking lot for added convenience.
