Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church is a well-renowned church in Baton Rouge. The church was constructed in 1943 by Father Dominic Blasco, pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish within the Diocese of Baton Rouge. On June 21, 1947, Archbishop Rummel formally raised the Mother of Mercy Mission to the status of a parish and renamed it 'Our Lady of Mercy Parish.' He named Father Louis E. Marionneaux its founding pastor, effective July 1, 1947. After much deliberation, it was agreed that approximately 700 families in about 30 square miles in the eastern section of Sacred Heart Parish should have their own parish. 'Our Lady of Mercy Parish' altar is a simple rectangular stone resting on four square stone legs to form the Table of Sacrifice. They were dedicated to these words of faith. The generous faith of their people has built this House of God to His Glory for the eternal happiness of their loved ones to ask His blessings upon all who come to their church.

OUR LADY OF MERCY CATHOLIC CHURCH REVIEWS
Beautiful church with a plethora of religious and sacramental resources for the catholic lay person to draw upon to grow deeper in their faith. The first time I visited, I was blown away by the ready availability of the sacraments; that impression hasn't changed in 10 years. There are ministries and opportunities for inclusion and growth for people of all age groups and lifestyles and backgrounds. My personal favorite is the 24 hour adoration chapel just outside the church, and fountain/garden area with the stations of the cross walking path. It is beautifully landscaped and brings peace to the soul. OLOM church truly has a mission to bring Christ to a hurting world.
The music is sublime, whether solos or the choir. Father Cleo gives absolutely some of the very best homilies. Always uses analogies that everyone can understand then ties it to the scripture readings. You begin by thinking where is he going with these examples and, without fail, we are heeding the scriptures and understanding what Christ and our Father in heaven want from us...always loving us.
Catholic church with a fancy pipe organ. Plenty of parking. Business casual is appropriate. Nice, sincere congregation. 9 a.m. Sunday mass song leader has a voice like an angel.

St. Joseph Cathedral Parish is one of the oldest historical churches in Baton Rouge. The church was founded in 1792. The church is a sacred place of faith. They offer countless prayers and bring blessings to the worldwide Catholic Church community. The first pastor, Father Carlos Burke, was an Irishman who had been schooled in Lyons, France, and Salamanca, Spain, in preparation for his ministry among people who spoke French, Spanish, and English. The first church was a small wooden chapel barely seated a hundred people. With a resident pastor, growth was immediate: within three years, he reported 529 parishioners. St. Joseph Cathedral Parish is a Roman Catholic community of faith that affirms God's presence and action in the world by giving witness to their savior, Jesus Christ. The Cathedral continues to prosper because of the hope, faith, and generosity of the people of Baton Rouge.

ST. JOSEPH CATHEDRAL REVIEWS
The windows here are stunning. While St. Joseph is scarcely mentioned in the Scriptures, the windows beautifully capture his important and powerful role in the Holy Family. Beyond highlighting his significance, the windows are impressive works of art. The scriptural citations for the windows really connect the dots if there is uncertainty as to what is depicted. I was particularly moved by the Coronation of Joseph, as I’ve never seen that image (or heard of this event) before. The verse at the bottom though, has it all make sense. The crucifix is off centered which was a little distracting for me, but I was so drawn to the windows so it wasn’t too difficult to pray.
This is a great church. The parking was on the street and a private lot so if you're going to a packed mass get there early. I loved the architecture, stained glass, and stations of the cross. They are all beautifully done. The pews are comfortable and so are the kneelers.
My friend and I used to stop here when we were walking around Baton Rouge. We attended a service in a small side chapel. It was very nice and peaceful.
