“Sacred Heart Catholic Church, established in 1905, is significant among Tampa's oldest cathedrals. In the late 1500s, Jesuit priests founded an outpost in what would later develop into Tampa, yet circumstances led to its abandonment after approximately three years. Situated at 509 North Florida Avenue, the church boasts predominantly Romanesque architecture with additional stylistic elements. The grand new edifice was consecrated, adopting the name Sacred Heart in honor of itself and the parish. Adorned with 70 stained glass windows, the most prominent of which are the 17 vertical windows adorning the nave, Sacred Heart offers various meeting spaces and hosts services throughout the week, including weekdays and weekends. Its largest meeting room often hosts Bible Study sessions and Sunday morning nursery classes during Mass. Additionally, Sacred Heart Catholic Church offers diverse religious articles and unique gifts. Serving as a haven for prayer, praise, and contemplation, Sacred Heart Catholic Church extends its welcoming embrace to parishioners, tourists, and downtown community members.
