The Arboretum contains over five miles (8 km) of nature trails, with forest, pond, wetland, and meadow habitats. Specialty gardens include a Hummingbird & Butterfly Island, Sensory Garden, and Wildlife Garden. The park is wide & spacious and offers a variety of trails to venture on. There are five miles of walking trails for hikers. The Arboretum prohibits dogs on the trails due to the abundance of local and invasive flora and fauna. Visitors can enjoy birdwatching and there are several rest stops available.

Terry Hershey Park is a 500-acre park located in western Houston, Texas that runs along a 6-mile stretch of the Buffalo Bayou. The park offers more than 30,000 hiking trails, with paved paths available in cleared sections around 10 feet wide and free of plants. Terry Hershey Park covers an area of 496 acres and boasts more than 12 miles of trails, providing a range of recreational activities and opportunities for visitors. The park features trails that extend from Barker Dam (near State Highway 6) to Texas Beltway 8 and the Sam Houston Tollway, spanning over 10 miles. Visitors are allowed to bring their dogs along with them for hiking. The park maintains a network of paths, both paved and dirt, along the bayou.
