Rock Cut is one of my favorite places to visit!! Yes, there is more to the Rockford/MP/LP area than just Magic Waters!! Rock Cut is a beautiful state park that has hiking trails, lakes, camping, horseback riding...well you get the idea. There are some great trails to hike here. The grounds are well kept and the trails are easy to identify. The park is easily located off 90 and has tons of things to do. I recommend coming during the fall when the leaves begin to change. Blackhawk Springs is accessible from Mulford and Perryville Roads. This 629.9-acre preserve is one of the largest in the Winnebago County Park District. Even though it's paved it goes up and down hills with benches along the path for resting. It follows the Kishwaukee River on the South end. The North path goes through prairie and woods

I've been going to this park since I was a kid. Now that I have kids if my own, we come here ALL the time for day hikes and camping. We prefer the primitive campsites. These sites are walk in with relatively close parking. We bring our custom made off road radio flyer wagon to haul our camping supplies to the primitive site. It's very quiet and peaceful back there. The hiking is awesome. Those stairs down to the river are a real workout!!! There is a switchback trail from river trail to Blackhaw
