" Burpee Museum of Natural History's main aim is to engage people in a lifetime of learning and discovery about the natural world through preservation and interpretation. The museum was established by Harry and Della Burpee. The museum is open to the public inside the historic Barnes Family Home. Burpee Museum of Natural History has four floors of exhibits suitable for the whole family. They offer field trips for schools and hands-on workshops. The workshop includes making fossils, water quality testing and invertebrate analysis in the water lab on the Rock River. They also offer homeschool programming. The museum has a main parking lot. Wheelchairs are available for free.

" Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum & Gardens was built by Robert Hall Tinker as a personal residence. The museum preserves and shares the legacy of the Tinker family. The place has over 27 acres of trees, vines, winding pathways, flowerbeds, and gardens. The house offers a complete walking tour and general tours. Guided tours are approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum & Gardens was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

BURPEE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY REVIEWS

Without a doubt, an absolute hidden gem!!!! We spent about two hours here today and had a great time. The staff were so friendly and thoughtful of my 4 year old. He asked a billion questions and got answers to almost all of them. I’m very grateful for the gentleman upstairs where all the snakes and geckos are that took his time educating us!! We will absolutely be back, also Jane the juvenile T-Tex was impeccable to see in person. Everyone was so friendly and inviting. This is an excellent museum for any Dino loving kiddo, big or girl.

Really surprised at their extensive collection of dinosaurs and fossils. Went down to their lab and one of the interns came out and gave us a great explanation of their process and their sites in Utah and Montana. Really enjoyed ourselves.

Great place hiding in plain sight! Great exhibits, friendly staff, lots to look at and do, many activities for kids, face paint, multiple stories tall, A++.

MIDWAY VILLAGE MUSEUM REVIEWS

This amazing museum covers much of the history of Rockford. Feature exhibits are the women of baseball, sock puppets, Native American, history, innovation, and inventions from people in Rockford and a recreated village from the 1800s with houses and businesses that you can tour apparently this place is also available for rental with two or three unique spaces available.

Nice section for the Rockford Peaches! A ton of information to read about the history of Rockford and Camp Grant. If you love sock monkeys, stop in, they have adult sized statues and the history of them. If you don't, well, just dont look them directly in the eye, they sense fear. Over all good time to spend inside staying warm. Great gift shop as well.

Midway Village Museum is a gem! Born and raised in Rockford, I moved away 14 years ago and was excited to see the museum again. My fiancé and I spent over two hours enjoying the different exhibits. The staff are kind and welcoming and it is clear they are passionate about the preservation of our local history. We can’t wait to come back in warmer weather to enjoy the village.

I loved this museum!! The history on it is so interesting all the furnishings were owned by the Tinker family! It is so beautiful inside very nicely renovated and preserved. If you r ever in Rockford, il. Look this place up you will be impressed.

A very old beautiful mansion from the mid 1800's that is a museum now. All the furnishings were owned by the Tinker family. It’s very nicely renovated and preserved. It is also haunted. A must see in the Rockford area.

Delightful insight into early America (1865-1885). Abby our docent was vert knowledgeable and provided a great tour.
