We had a spectacular hike today. Lots of people meant we passed someone every ten minutes or so depending on the trail. Other than a two inch piece of a glass bottle coming out of the ground in the middle of one of the trails, people respect the park extremely well. (And, yes, we dug it up and disposed of it because there are garbage cans in the bathrooms.) This was the first piece of garbage we found in three excursions here. The bathrooms ALWAYS need more attention, but you'll find the impressive trails and river beaches pristine and well groomed.
Amazing state park, went with very low expectations and this parks blew every expectation away. Great place for family picnic and hike. The beach was the highlight next to Cedar river, Kids just loved the place. The hiking trails are good, maybe little too rigged for small kids but if you guide them through, the hike to the beach was a great surprise to the kids.
We had a great site. Very quiet and secluded in our loop. Close to the shower house. Several trails to hike. Some more strenuous than others. It's very pretty along the river hike with the bluffs. Very close to a metro area if you need anything.
