Helium Time Columns Monument is a towering six-story stainless steel structure that commemorates the centennial of the discovery of helium. The monument features four time-capsule columns that hold exceptional artifacts, books, and documents, reminding future generations of the importance of efficient utilization of natural resources and what life was like in 1968. Each sculpture component is a time capsule, with artifacts, letters, and information from 1968 carefully preserved in an inert helium environment. The first time capsule was opened during a two-day celebration in May 1993. The location was home to a significant helium plant and played a vital role in the US Government's helium resources and gas production. Using a helicopter, the monument was lifted to its current position at the Don Harrington Discovery Center.
