“The Stone House grounds provide a manicured green oasis to the landmark. The House is immersed in the natural setting of the Bear Creek Greenbelt. The National Register holds the Stone House for Historic Preservation. As the nation teetered on the brink of Civil War, two brothers from New York State joined the stream of people heading west. Joseph and William Hodgson settled in Bear Creek Valley, and Joseph built the Stone House between 1859 and 1864. The lawn mature trees, plant beds, patio, and seating areas offer a tranquil garden setting for both contemplative spaces or as an extension of the House for rentals for special occasions such as weddings, and all rentals are made on a first-come and a first-served basis.”
