"Rhode Island State House is the third state house built in Rhode Island. The building is in the neoclassical style and was designed by McKim, Mead & White. The building was built from 1891 to 1901. The building features the fourth-largest structural stone dome in the world, topped by a gilded statue of "The Independent Man," representing freedom and independence. Rhode Island State House houses the Rhode Island General Assembly; the state House of Representatives is located in the west wing, and the Senate is located in the east wing, as well as the offices of the governor, secretary of state, lieutenant governor, and general treasurer of Rhode Island. The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
2026 Highlights: Rhode Island State House has a Visitor Center and Gift Shop that offer various memorabilia for sale, including postcards, magnets, and items designed and made in Rhode Island. They also offer Docent-led, self-guided, and virtual tours."
