Specialty:
“The John Brown House Museum is named after the original owner, one of the early benefactors of the university, statesman, merchant, and slave trader John Brown. The building was designed by John Brown's brother, Joseph, who was an amateur architect and also designed the First Baptist Church in America. The museum's knowledgeable team can present various historical topics, including Rhode Island’s unique position in the Revolution, its participation in slavery and the slave trade, and a fully renovated 18th-century carriage. In addition, their dedicated team of volunteers and staff provide educational programming and support special events. The house was listed as a National Historic Landmark in 1968. The John Brown House Museum offers free admission for children under 10 and members.”
