The John Brown House Museum is named after the original owner, one of the early benefactors of the university, statesman, merchant, and slave trader John Brown. The building was designed by John Brown's brother, Joseph, who was an amateur architect and also designed the First Baptist Church in America. The museum's knowledgeable team can present various historical topics, including Rhode Island’s unique position in the Revolution, its participation in slavery and the slave trade, and a fully renovated 18th-century carriage. In addition, their dedicated team of volunteers and staff provide educational programming and support special events. The house was listed as a National Historic Landmark in 1968. The John Brown House Museum offers free admission for children under 10 and members.

Rhode Island State House is the third state house built in Rhode Island. The building is in the neoclassical style that was designed by McKim, Mead & White. The building was built from 1891 to 1901. The building features the fourth-largest structural-stone dome in the world, topped by a gilded statue of "The Independent Man," representing freedom and independence. Rhode Island State House has the Rhode Island General Assembly; the state House of Representatives is located in the west wing, and the Senate is located in the east wing, as well as the offices of the governor, secretary of state, lieutenant governor, and general treasurer of Rhode Island. The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Rhode Island State House offers free guided tours to all visitors.

The Old State House is treasured by its communities for its significant historical exhibits and admired for its architectural quality. The house is also known as the Providence Sixth District Court House, the Providence Colony House, the Providence County House, and the Rhode Island State House. The building is a brick Georgian-style structure primarily completed in 1762. The Old State House was used as the meeting place for the colonial and state legislatures for 149 years. A pedimented entry is also centered on the rear, facing Benefit Street. Today, the building acts as the headquarters of the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, and is adjacent to Mead and White’s spacious Capitol building.
