The Rhode Island School of Design Museum was co-founded with the school in 1877. The museum's main function is to gather, protect, provide access to, and interpret a broad array of art and design works that reflect different cultures, from ancient times to contemporary creations. Presently, the collection features over 100,000 pieces of art, such as paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, costumes, textiles, and furniture from every corner of the globe. Moreover, the museum offers diverse educational and public programs to over 100,000 visitors annually. The museum provides free entry to members, students of RISD or member institutions, youth (18 and under), staff, faculty, and active-duty U.S. military personnel and their families.
