3 Best Museums in Albuquerque, NM

This place was awesome! The museum staff were very friendly in explaining their particular exhibits and answering questions. Some of the interactive were broken (a lot of the electric generator based ones) or seemingly not too related to nuclear science but still cool nonetheless. There was probably more history than science but it was still very insightful and cool for me as someone who's a bit more into science. There's also a playground and some benches in the back behind the museum and this would definitely be cool for a school field trip. The gift shop had some fun science items for kids too

I have been here several times I like it so much. The museum has very good displays of both military and civilian applications of nuclear power. The outdoor displays are very good with strategic bombers and missile delivery systems. In particular, a titan missile is on its side with stages separated so you can see the rocket motors and the way the guidance thrusters were mechanized if you like such things. They revised many things this past year (2025) and a nice addition was made to the interactive kids area. My grandson loved it.

Amazing detail on the history behind the atom bomb and nuclear technology as a whole. This museum explores the people and the time that led to the creation of nuclear technology and the atom bomb. What’s even greater is the detailed explanation after about what nuclear technology has become since the early atomic age. Great interactive displays and exhibits as well as historical artifacts and recreations

Albuquerque is so lucky to have this amazing museum! Filled with beautiful exhibits on both Albuquerque and the Southwest, this museum is a must see while visiting Albuquerque. Admission is very reasonable and the air conditioning felt wonderful on this hot summer day. We spent 3 hours there and could have even stayed longer, there was so much to see. The museum is immaculately maintained. There is a gift shop and café. I will include some photos from our visit.

There is a lot to see and take in here. One thing that stands out for me was the gigantic map of Albuquerque on the floor of the Albuquerque room. The outdoor sculptures in front and back are very impressive, too. There are also some rooms showing videos of our shared history. This is a great place to bring children as well as teenagers as it is a learning experience for all ages.

Awesome museum with art sculptures, multiple educational theatres, and plenty of historical info. My favorite part was the Free old town tour at 11am. Dave was super cool and had lots of info about the town! Highly recommend. Free admission Sundays 9am-1pm.
