Markham Nature Park and Arboretum is a compact, tree-topped park that features 16 acres of native and adapted floral and tree gardens. The arboretum embodies the vision of a place full of unique and interesting trees, shrubs, and plants from all around the world that thrive in an inland yet marine-influenced climate characterized by hot days and cool nights in the summer and cold, frosty nights in the winter. The arboretum aims to protect and enhance the park’s ecosystem, land, watershed, and plants for the benefit of all visitors, while also providing space for Concord’s community gardeners to grow vegetables. Markham Nature Park is a place of quiet beauty, less than twenty blocks from downtown Concord. With its main entrance at the south end of La Vista Avenue, much of it remains in its natural state, with vegetation only slightly tamed. Shade-dappled Galindo Creek flows through the park. The park staff is maintaining and developing a diverse living collection of plants, especially suited to the local environment.
