“Elk Grove Historical Society has a rich and fascinating history dating back to 1962 when four passionate local women joined forces to preserve the area's heritage. Their tireless efforts and dedication led to the formation of the Bicentennial Committee in 1976, which was tasked with conserving the Rhoads School. The society is committed to protecting Elk Grove's unique historical assets, including its historical library, and works tirelessly to promote awareness of its rich history and cultural heritage. Eventually, the Bicentennial Committee evolved into the Elk Grove Historical Society, officially established after the school was successfully relocated, rescued, and renovated in Elk Grove Regional Park. Today, the Elk Grove Historical Society offers many programs encouraging learning and living history, including activities focused on searching, gathering, and preserving historical artifacts and records.”
