“American Windmill Museum features more than 160 American-style windmills. American Windmill Museum's educational mission is to help a wide range of audiences learn how people have used and continue using human creativity to use the wind to survive in various environments. Before establishing the museum, the collections were kept in storage until 1997, when Lubbock approved a site. American Windmill Museum is widely known as the place to go to see windmills. Harris and volunteers repositioned the collection to this new location. Windmills as large as 25 feet in diameter could be exhibited indoors, and by 2001, and the museum had the most expansive public display of restored windmills in the world. Windmills were erected on the grounds and within a small display house. Visitors can explore the more than a hundred rare and historic water-pumping windmills displayed within the museum. Children ages 5 and under, active duty military and their families, and members of the American Windmill Museum receive free admission.”
