“Holy Spirit Church is one of the famous churches in Fremont. The church was originally named Holy Ghost Church and was founded in 1886 by Bishop Eugene O’Connell of Grass Valley, assisted by Fr. Montgomery and Fr. Governo. The church features behind the Altar of Repose is a 15-foot wide mosaic mural of people, young and old, offering gifts to Christ. Holy Spirit Church mosaic was designed and installed by Isabel and Edith Piscek. The population in Fremont grew, and so did the needs of the Holy Spirit Church.
