“Fort Defiance Civil War Park & Interpretive Center is located on a bluff 200 feet above the confluence of the Red and Cumberland Rivers in Clarksville. The Fort Defiance site has been a hub of activity for over two centuries. Fort Defiance Civil War Park & Interpretive Center was initially inhabited by Native Americans, and white settlers began arriving in the late 18th Century. They have a Gift shop, Picnic Tables, a Walking Trail, temporary and permanent exhibits, and Restrooms. The place became a trading center and settlement. During the Civil War, the Confederate troops chose the hilltop as a site to construct a fort to defend the river approach to Clarksville. Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center afford free field trips and group tours.”
