The museum aims to collect, preserve, and interpret historical, artistic, and scientific material, with over 35,000 square feet dedicated to the region’s best hands-on activities and special events, and explore an entire city block featuring large gallery spaces filled with fine art, science, and history. Fort Defiance Civil War Park & Interpretive Center provides opportunities for exploring the historic site differently. The museum is located on a bluff 200 feet above the confluence of the Red and Cumberland Rivers. The museum covers more than a 1,500-square-foot interpretive center and features exhibits about the surrounding area and the fort during the Civil War era. Fort Defiance is the site of a Civil War fort, and this celebrated park offers an interpretive center with various exhibits. The museum has a free parking area and leads into the visitor center. There is a great walking path around the grounds. The film inside the visitor center gives you some great history of the town and the war.
