It is open throughout the year and offers guided tours as well as overnight stays, giving guests a chance to experience the home featured in the film. Just across the street, the museum displays original props, costumes, and memorabilia, along with behind-the-scenes photos. Visitors can see familiar items from the movie, including toys, costumes, and other set pieces. Admission is available for guests aged five and older, and booking tickets in advance is recommended. "Severance Hall is home to the Cleveland Orchestra and opened in 1931 to give the orchestra a permanent home. The venue was named after patrons John L and his wife, Elisabeth Huntingdon DeWitt Severance. The building featured a nearly 2,000-seat concert hall and a 400-seat chamber music hall. Local and national preservation organizations have acknowledged the building's architectural value through the National Register of Historic Places. The building is also rented for concerts, workshops, and gala events by several civic organizations and private individuals. They offer outstanding catering options, and Severance Hall's elegant setting allows for an incredible photographic backdrop.

2026 Update: Severance Hall, also known as Severance Music Center, is the venue that hosts concerts and special events throughout the year. "The Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument honors 9,000 people from Cuyahoga County who supported the Union during the American Civil War. The monument serves as a unique example of late 19th-century architecture. The site contains a 125-foot column and is enclosed by a Memorial Room and esplanade at its base. The column is made of polished black Quincy stone with six bronze foliated bands that list the names of 30 battles fought by soldiers from this area. The site aims to operate, maintain, and preserve the Cuyahoga County Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument under Ohio Rev. You can see the monument room, which features light gray granite and light brown Amherst sandstone, as well as the esplanade and red sandstone Medina stairs. The site affords free entry.

2026 Update: The Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument in Cleveland, designed by Levi Scofield, honors local veterans of the American Civil War and has been open to the public since its restoration in 2008. Visitors start with a short introduction, then take a guided tour through the tunnels beneath the monument, and finish in the Memorial Room, where they can explore artwork and displays at their own pace. The monument features a 125-foot column topped with the statue of the Goddess of Freedom, and the base displays bronze sculptures showing the Navy, Artillery, Infantry, and Cavalry in battle. Inside, visitors can see bronze reliefs highlighting key moments of the war, along with busts of local leaders and officers who lost their lives. The site is designed to educate visitors about the Civil War and honor the men and women from Cuyahoga County who helped preserve the Union and end slavery. Visitors are encouraged to arrive a little early, especially during busy times, to make the most of their tour."

HOUSE FROM A CHRISTMAS STORY REVIEWS

This visit brought back so many wonderful childhood memories. Every Christmas, I’d watch this movie—it’s truly an all-time classic! While in Cleveland for a wedding, I had a few hours before my flight and decided to Google ‘things to do in Cleveland.’ Alongside the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, this popped up, and of course, I had to choose it. I couldn’t believe the Christmas Story house was here! Seeing the iconic ‘Leg Lamp’ in person was such a fun moment. The staff was incredibly friendly and shared fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about the filming process, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I also loved walking across the street to the museum extension, where props and costumes from the movie were on display. I visited with friends who had never seen the movie, and by the time we finished the tour, they were eager to watch it! Overall, this was an amazing experience and a must-visit for fans of the film or anyone looking for something unique to do in Cleveland.

Really neat experience. There's several items from the movie on display and several replica's. ALL SO COOL!! To hear the stories of making the movie to seeing and experiencing the house was great! The house is interactive so you can pick things up, take photos, etc. There is also a museum and gift shop across the street. You can even rent the house or the Bumpus house for an overnight stay!! Highly recommended if you love the movie as much as I do.

They did a great job restoring the house to the way it was in the movie! You can touch all the items in the house, it's almost like you're in the movie! A museum with artifacts is across the street and is very interesting. Tour guide, Chuck, was very informative and gave a great tour! If you like the movie, you gotta check this place out.

This is an amazing venue! It is one of Cleveland's most iconic landmarks and the home of the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra. I had the privilege of watching my son perform on this stage with the North Royalton High School wind ensemble. Unfortunately, they did not allow us to record the performance.

This is a very nice place and we would definitely go back for the Cleveland Orchestra. This time, we got the third row of box seats but next time, try to get tickets early and get the first row in the box seats. People working there were very nice and friendly.

Both the exterior and interior architecture are beautiful and worth the visit. However what is presented inside is what most matters and it includes the glorious concerts of the Cleveland Orchestra.

What a treasure this historic monument is - and the workers/volunteers are so knowledgeable. Once a year they open the tunnels under the monument up for tours, which is cool, but the best part is learning all about the monument, the different sides and sculptures, what they mean, the different statues contained inside the lobby etc. The underground tour is a minimal charge, usually in late April. But the monument itself is FREE every other day. If you live in or visit Cleveland you have to go visit this treasure of a monument - and plan on spending time talking to the volunteers/workers.

Looking better than ever, much better than it looked in the 1970’s! Do take the time to visit inside, it’s free, with many nice exhibits and impressive art. So many Presidents depicted. The volunteer hosts are helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Some people say the world is going downhill but at this place, it’s improved, well kept, and staffed with caring volunteers. Thanks to all. Allow 20-30 minutes for a fairly complete visit, but even a few minutes works if you are on a tight schedule.

If you simply walk in and look around and walk out, you will be missing out on a lot of history. The museum is free with several exhibits to see. You could be in and out in 15 minutes. But take a moment to talk to the guides. They can add so much to the background and history of why there is a museum. They can even point out some of the mistakes in the carvings. I thought it was interesting that they left one section for additions, but that small section quickly filled up.
