The mission of the Kelton House Museum & Garden, operated by the Junior League of Columbus, is to preserve, present, and promote local history, the decorative arts, and the Kelton Family experience to educate and enrich the community. The House has been restored from the 1800s with Victorian treasures from the Kelton estate. Thurber House is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was founded in 1984. It provides cultural events that reflect James Thurber's heritage and spirit. The House is also a historic house museum that has been restored for the period when the Thurber family lived there from 1913 to 1917. The House has two floors: a formal parlor, living room, dining room, five bedrooms, and a bathroom. Their mission is to celebrate the written word for the broadest possible audience's education and entertainment and continue Thurber's legacy of humor. Thurber House programs consist The Thurber Prize for American Humor, author events featuring nationally bestselling authors and neighborhood authors, writing workshops for children and adults, writer residencies, and more. The House offers a range of arts and culture organizations. It affords free regular self-guided tours. It provides guided community tours by invitation for 10+ guests.
