This is a really neat place to visit, so much history! Lots of unique vintage items can be found throughout the house, and the tours are amazing. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and you learn something different every time you visit. The story of how the Witchduck area got its name is neat, just ask the guides to fill you in. Annual membership is a bargain to help preserve this historical gem, and you get a really nice, lengthy newsletter filled with more interesting info about the house and it's prior inhabitants. Hoping one day to see one of the many ghosts that are said to haunt here. If you're a history buff and want to learn more about the area, or like historical houses and antiques, this is a great place to visit year-round.

This house and site are a must see if you are interested in local Virginia Beach history, especially if you want to learn more about Grace Sherwood. The site is back in a residential neighborhood but is easy to get to and has adequate parking. The grounds are free to tour but the house requires advance tickets and hours/days are limited. Definitely worth the trip for local and tourists alike.

Our tour Guide, Gerry, was wonderful. She was patient with my children and kept them interested and involved. She was funny, kind, and very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed our visit.

The first spot you need to go through is a cute little building at the bottom of the lighthouse before you ascend the 100 steps up a lovely pass to the lighthouse. Tickets are a reasonable price for the amount of history you absorb throughout this journey. The helpers at the top on the base of the lighthouse will share any history about the area if you just ask. Inside the lighthouse, you can see the different changes they’ve made over time and what years the changes were made in. The different layers of paint show just how many people had come to stay at this lighthouse. At the top, you can see the amazing metal work and take a look out at the ocean, and most often see dolphins and other ships coming in.

This was a unique experience. First of all, the entrance got us a little confused as there was a military guard. We went through a screening and took a shuttle to the lighthouses where there was a gift shop. Unfortunately, the lighthouse wasn't accessible because of the heat, but there's an observation area. Keep in mind that there are 79 steps that lead up to the base of the stone lighthouse. I wouldn't recommend this place to someone with limited mobility. Once on top, you can see the other lighthouse and the ocean. It's a nice sight. We were given a lot of warnings of the area as part of the area is a military zone. If you want to explore, you will be limited and will have to play by the rules.

Wondering historic light house on Fort Story. There are ALOT lot of steps and a ladder at the top. So keep that in mind if you have trouble w mobility or steps in general. But it was worth the climb! The view was beautiful! Great history.
