"Hell's Point Golf Club features 18 holes, par 72, length 6,776 yards, with a slope rating of 130. Jimmy Leach is the golf course superintendent, and Steve Morris is the assistant superintendent. The golf course has been rated as one of the top 100 best-designed courses in the United States by the American Society of Golf Course Architects. Hell's Point Golf Club is a venue in Hampton Roads for outings, tournaments, and casual rounds of golf. Their championship course runs through the bay behind the National Wildlife Sanctuary, and this course is a must-play, as nature surrounds every golfer. Their practice facilities feature a range, putting green, and chipping green to help you warm up and refine your skills, whether you’re playing a round or practicing. All member-designated tournaments are open to the general public with a verifiable handicap.

2026 Update: Hell's Point Golf Club offers a fully equipped golf shop featuring the latest golf apparel and gear. They also have a centrally located snack shop at the turn, fully stocked with hot dogs, snacks, cold sandwiches, and beverages to keep you energized. “2026 Update: Stumpy Lake Golf Course is set beside a 278-acre lake and is a forested 18-hole course that opened in 1958 and features a bar and grill. They provide a distinctive golf experience, designed by Robert Trent Jones, ASGCA. They feature an ADA-compliant overlook, a 174-acre golf course, approximately 970 acres of undeveloped forest surrounding the lake, and 1.65 miles of soft, shared-use trails. Stumpy Lake Golf Course extends through the natural beauty of a 1,400-acre nature preserve, completely free of any commercial or residential development. The golf course has a par of 72. It is common to see deer, foxes, eagles, and ospreys, and now and then, a bear may be observed. Their facility includes a new clubhouse, a canoe and kayak launch, a nature trail, and a fishing pier at the lake’s eastern end. Stumpy Lake Golf Course has a shop that is fully stocked with everything you need to play golf, including balls, gloves, tees, shirts, shoes, umbrellas, and more. They provide gift certificates.”

HELL'S POINT GOLF CLUB REVIEWS

The greens and cart path are to be desired, but I’m giving it 5 stars because the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The nature is abundant throughout the front and back 9. I am teaching myself the game of golf and this is the perfect course to learn at.

Manicured greens, helpful and accommodating staff. Not the most challenging course but not for beginners either. Don't forget to ask for The Coach.

Staff was friendly and courteous. Greens were good. Fairways were well groomed and just the right height. Just the right mix of hazards. Lots of water.

STUMPY LAKE GOLF COURSE REVIEWS

I walked 18 at stumpy lake today. Older course (I think) behind a local nature park. You feel away from the hustle and bustle. Course was in great shape, looks great but it is late in the season. Forgiving layout that is simple and playable for any golfer. Experienced golfers may feel a little "bored". Scenic and quaint. Optimal course to ruin a nice walk at.

Me and my family come here every year from St. Louis and simply doesn’t disappoint. I’ve played them all in Va Beach and unlike Hells point the customer service is outstanding. The course architecture is very fun while also providing a challenge. I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to play in Va beach.

I play Stumpy Lake GC quite often because it’s very close to my house and I can say that it is definitely a great course…especially for the money. The layout of the course is fairly challenging and it’s always in good condition. I’ll definitely be back.

Played here for the first time today and couldn’t have been more impressed. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the course is in great shape. It’s definitely very challenging, but allows for any skill level to have a great time here. Was so impressed by it that I decided to join! Can’t wait to return.

Great warm up areas. Friendly staff. Great carts. Discount for locals which is very nice. Course was in great shape minus some areas on the greens. I think the weather has caused some of the issue with the grass on the greens. Overall great course.

Course was in great shape and very challenging. Priced accordingly in my opinion. 164 for 2 players to play 18 and a cart. Club house was beautiful on the inside. Will definitely come back if we come back to Vabeach.
