The Museum contains a vast collection of anatomical and pathological specimens, wax models, and antique medical equipment, and is part of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia features a collection of over 37,000 specimens, with 10% on display as of 2023, and it is home to more than 3,000 osteological specimens, including several full skeletons. The Mütter Museum of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia's collection comprises about 1,500 wet specimens, which include cysts, tumors, teratological specimens, and other pathologies from every organ of the body.

The museum owns a collection of 1000 objects, including artwork, textiles, sculpture, weapons, manuscripts, and rare books.
