"Overton Park features the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis Zoo, a 9-hole golf course, Rainbow Lake, and the Greensward. The park has two miles of paved trails beneath a canopy of beautiful trees that provide shade for picnic tables and benches, making them pleasant spots for kids and parents alike. It also includes two large climbing structures, a green mound with a tree tunnel slide, chess tables, swing sets, and a classic merry-go-round. Overton Park offers a free library and picnic tables. It is a fabulous place for jogging, bike riding, and playing with pets. The park has two playgrounds and a green space area where visitors can relax in nature and spend time with their family. The park offers free entry and has a parking lot available.

2026 Update: Overton Park has the old Forest State Natural Area – 126 acres of protected old-growth forest. 8+ miles of trails, including dirt, paved, and limestone running loops. The Park has a large open lawn for relaxing, picnics, and gatherings."

OVERTON PARK REVIEWS

What a beautiful park!. We were staying at an Airbnb nearby and we had a few hours until we had to be to our next event, so I took my kids here to the playground by the pond. Beautiful! They played the entire time! The trails were muddy so we didn’t go far in, but the paved road through the trees was perfect for waking and running. I felt safe alone during the day the next morning when I came back to run. Would highly recommend this place to families. *I did not check to see if there were restrooms and if they were clean, I’d there were any.

This is an incredible park.! It's got a Zoo, Art Museum, and an old growth forest with many trails. I spent about two hours just walking around the trails at one point I thought I was lost. I thought if I get lost in the forest in the middle of town, I'm never gonna live it down. Overall this is a hard park to beat. I fantastic way to spend an afternoon.

Very convenient park to stretch and breathe clean air right on the middle of the city. The park is well maintained and developed. Lots of walk ways throughout the forest will make you forget that you are in the city.

TOM LEE PARK REVIEWS

This playground and park is incredible. The park is named after a man who rescued many individuals and brought them to safety after their boat capsized on the Mississippi River. Currently, there are posters up, telling his story (see the photos below). The park is quite large, and has multiple basketball courts, hammocks to swing in, large wooden swings, a huge playground with animals you can climb into, slides, a little putt putt course, etc. The park is right on the Mississippi River.

Wonderful park! I was visiting from out of town and am totally impressed by the design. There is something for everyone. I personally liked relaxing in the hammock grove and walking around to enjoy the native flowers. There is al loan program near the putting green that lends sport equipment for free. I love they even had hacky sacks. All waste disposal cans are labeled as recycle or landfill to remind us where it goes and there are pet fountains that fill bowls for your dog. I was there during a heat wave but the river location provided a nice breeze. Parts of the park are also shaded.

A fantastic area by the Mississippi River to walk, run, and bike with plenty of paths. Places to just sit and enjoy the view with park equipment throughout. Very nice.

SHELBY FARMS PARK REVIEWS

Shelby Farms is a beautiful park. I love going on the walking trail around the lake. It's about 2.3 miles around. There's space for bikers, runners and walkers. You can also rent bikes and canoes as well. Some days, there are food trucks out there, usually on the weekends. It's very family friendly as well. I have yet to explore every part of Shelby Farms, but I definitely recommend going.

The best park EVER!! I grew up coming to this park. I’ve walked many of the trails over the years, 5k races, the dog park, birthday parties, the playground, movie nights, you name it. I will always spend as much time here as possible. The grounds are always so well taken care of and I love how many trails there are for you to choose from.

Very nice park with plenty of paved biking trails and dirt hiking/biking trails. Check the visitor center to take a look at the large park map. Clean restrooms and a small concession area. Lots of small lakes and you can rent kayaks, canoes and paddle boats.
